Emmanuel Finkiel’s adaptation of seminal author Marguerite Duras’ autobiographical novel (The War: A Memoir) centers on an intensely powerful performance by Mélanie Thierry as Duras.
Both she and her husband, the writer Robert Antelme, were members of the Resistance living in Nazi-occupied Paris. Desperate for news of Robert, who has been arrested and sent to Dachau, Marguerite enters into a high-risk game of psychological intrigue with French Nazi collaborator Rabier. But as the months wear on without word of her husband, she begins the process of confronting the unimaginable.
